"I have the personal desire of testing myself against Brock Lesnar, who is haunting. He's a monster of strength, but is technical, too. My tactic would be to keep him at distance, not to let him get a hold on me. Otherwise, the punishment would be enormous."Lyoto Machida once again discusses his dream of a superfight with current UFC HW Champ Brock Lesnar, in which would be one of the greatest size dissadvantages in history. Although he has high dreams of what could be, at least he is being realistic of what the outcome could be if ends up underneath the bohemeth we know as the champ. Let's not forget the very real challenge right in front of him that is Shogun Rua and the whole lot of potential match ups that are still out there for him at LHW. But maybe just maybe if he get's through that minefield we call the UFC LHW div. we all could all see possibly one of the greatest match ups ever.

Lyoto Machida is a good fighter, but he has yet to defend the light-heavyweight title. The division is full of good fighters at that weight class for him to challenge. I think he is looking way past Shogun Rua with delusions of grandeur if he thinks he can compete with Brock Lesnar at the heavyweight level.
ReplyDeleteThe only fighter I can remember to be outweighed by his opponents by more than 100lbs or so and still be able to compete and win was Gracie. With his excellent BJJ, he was able to take the strikes of his bigger opponents and get them to the ground and then submit them. Machida's special brand of karate will have no affect on Lesnar once the fight goes to the ground.
If Machida can blow through his division like Anderson Silva has through his, then maybe some super fights at another weight class may happen for Machida.
